30K Schlachtensee Sunset Run
Got out the door at 3:00 PM as the sun was getting low in the sky and I followed it running along the canal and by the time I got to Zehlendorfer Damm it was beginning to set. I made my way through Zehlendorf till I got to the S-Bahn station Nikolassee, then ran down a couple streets until I found the entrance to the west end of Schlachtensee and ran in. I was immediately presented with a beautiful view of the lake and since it was just starting to get dark, the path that I remember as very crowded on weekends was free to run. The fact that it was just getting dark afforded some spectacular views looking back at the blue-to-orange pastel sky. I also ran along the south side of Krumme Lanke and by the time I got to Onkel-Tom-Strasse it was completely dark which made it a quite blind run up through Grunewald except when a car would pass. Getting to Clay Allee, I made a stop at the gas station for an ice tea, then made my way back the last 5K down the familiar Königin-Luise-Strasse back home.
