18K Volkspark Loop with Gisi
With four weeks to go till our Berlin Half Marathon, Gisi and I need to get a couple long runs in during these next three weeks, and so run a solid 18K. Looking out the window before our run, the weather was very uninviting for a run, cold and drizzly, but we donned the running suits anyway and got out the door. It took a good 3K to warm up and get used to the drizzle. We ran down mostly small streets this run, exploring various neighborhoods in a grand arc around the south part of Berlin Steglitz-Wilmersdorf-Schöneberg-Templehof-Lankwitz-Steglitz. The mid part of our run traversed the entire Volkspark from west to east, then we took off down to Templehof past IKEA. Around 12K, the sky started to open up and we actually experienced some blue sky and a Mars-like sun: you could see it but feel none of its warmth. Arriving home, it was great to be back. Two more long runs during the next two weeks, then probably a short 10K, and it's time for the Berlin Half Marathon April 3rd.
