4. Create an Empty Virtual Machine
We are now going to start the VMware Workstation and create an empty virtual machine that is set to install Ubuntu

Click on the VMware icon in your taskbar.

Unclick the Show tips at startup checkbox and click  Close .

Click File > New > Virtual Machine....

Leave Typical selected and click  Next .

Check Linux, choose Ubuntu in the dropdown, and click  Next .

In Windows Explorer, create a directory called c:\virtualMachines\ubuntu.

Leave virtual machine name as Ubuntu, for the directory enter c:\virtualMachines\ubuntu , and click  Next .

Leave the selection on Use Bridged Networking and click  Next .

PoorBuster: Why not allow NAT?

Adil: I think using NAT is the best option because in my case internet was not working when i use this option, and i got this when i got this problem when i was on stage 7 of this process (updating software), not sure why author has recommend this.

Bobby: Same for me. I had Xubuntu and making it NAT worked for me. Neverthless excellent tutorial.....

Check Split disk into 2 GB files (so you can later store your virtual machine on DVDs) and click  Finish .
