Tutorial: Build a WPF application that uses LINQ-to-SQL to access the NorthWind database
If you are new to WPF, working through this tutorial will show you how easy it is to (1) create gradient-looking WPF apps, (2) use LINQ to access a database, and (3) how easy LINQ-to-SQL code generation makes all this (really, no connection strings, no SQL, none of that). At the end you have a little application that allows you to click buttons and change the data you are getting on the screen and search through all customers in the Northwind database.
